Kisan Mela and Exhibition
The department of Horticulture, Aromatic and Medicinal Plants (HAMP), Mizoram University (MZU) organized a ‘Kisan Mela and Exhibition’ on 21.03.23 under the activities of Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Govt. of India sponsored Biotech-Krishi Innovation Science Application Network Hub (Biotech-KISAN Hub). The Mela and Exhibition was organized in multi-purpose hall of the University Campus.
The mela was inaugurated by Prof. Lalnundanga, Registrar, Mizoram University in the august presence of Prof. Shri Dhar, Dean, CAU Imphal-College of Horticulture, Thenzawl, Mizoram , Prof. Vanlalchhuana, Finance Officer, Mizoram University and Prof. B. P. Mishra, Dean, School of Earth Sciences and Natural Resource Management, Mizoram University and Prof. Tridip Kumar Hazarika, HoD HAMP, Mizoram University.
Prof. Rambir Singh, Coordinator, DBT Biotech- KISAN Hub presented the progress report of the project and highlighted the success stories on cultivation of cabbage, cauliflower and tomato under the project. He also mentioned about the progress made in value addition of spices and preparation of ‘ginger candy’ by the farmers self help groups associated with the project. The partner KVKs from Kolasib, Lawngtlai, Champhai, Lunglei, Serchhip and Aizawl districts of Mizoram participated in the mela along with their progressive farmers. The also exhibited their crops and produce during the mela. Around 300 farmers from various districts of Mizoram participated in the Mela. Budding entrepreneurs from 20 micro and small agri-business enterprises from Mizoram also showcased their products in the exhibition. The students of Department of HAMP, MZU and farmers presented a cultural progarmme in the evening.
Progressive farmer fellowship to 13 farmers and Budding agri-entrepreneur fellowship to 02 entrepreneurs was provided during the kisan mela. The fellowship carries a cash award of Rs. 10,000.00 and a certificate.
